Indian Railways is recognized as the largest railway network worldwide and recruits youngsters on a large scale. Also, the Indian Railways is the primary mode of transport in India, the world’s largest employer (having over 1.2 million employees), and has been operating for over 160 years. The Indian Railways have vacancies in various positions periodically, with several aspiring candidates vying for jobs in the railways. Railway Jobs: Different Categories
Railway jobs are grouped under Group A, Group B, Group C, and Group D. Group A Group-A railway jobs come under the official category where the recruitments are conducted via the Civil Services. Other than that, the railways fill posts under Group-A through Combined Medical Exam / Engineering Service Exam. To be eligible to apply for Group-A railway jobs, the candidates should secure MBBS, MSc or engineering degrees from recognized institutions. Group-B Similar to Group-A, Group-B jobs are official grade ones too. Recruitments under Group-B are carried out via alliance with UPSC and performance-based promotions. Also, the eligibility criteria of Group-B jobs are similar to Group-A ones, if the posts are not filled via promotion. Group-C Several non-gazette posts of the Indian Railways come under Group-C. These include stenographer, guards, HQ station manager, clerk, traffic attendant, and ticket collector. Group-C positions are, also, referred to as subordinate posts; they fall below officer grades and above Group-D ones. Group-D Group-D has a series of posts such as Trolleyman, Gangmen, Trackmen, Khalasi, and helper.
Railway Jobs: Eligibility Criteria
The different job vacancies in the Indian Railways department vary in eligibility norms. However, the aspiring candidates who have completed graduation can apply for varied positions. These include Traffic / Commercial Apprentice, Junior Accounts Assistant, Clerk-cum-typist, Trainee Guard, Assistant Station Manager, Enquiry-cum-reservation clerk, and Goods guard. Moreover, for clerk or typist or stenographer positions, the candidates are required to pass the Matriculation exams. Additionally, the Indian Railways have vacancies for candidates who have completed certificate and diploma courses. Where age criteria for railway jobs are concerned, in most cases, the applicant has to between the ages of 18-30 years to apply.
Railway Jobs: Exam Preparation
As seen earlier, the eligible candidates have to appear for an entrance exam when applying to railway jobs. Upon passing the entrance examination, they are invited to the other screening rounds. However, a large number of applicants give the exam, leading to intense competition. Thus, the candidates must prepare for the exams thoroughly. As part of their exam preparation, they must start early. The first step is to study the entire syllabus and follow by drafting the timetable. Make sure to cover all topics in your study schedule. Also, ensure to practice using the question papers of previous years, in addition to other sample tests. Joining a coaching institute can, also, be considered if the candidate is not able to study on their own.
